North Community Church History

The Northside Community United Methodist Church was formed from the union of the Trinity and New Hope United Methodist Churches. The union became official at the South Indiana Annual Conference on June 15, 1996. By October 1997, 10.695 acres of land located on the southeast corner of Maple and Fruitridge Avenues were purchased as the site for the new building.

On April 19, 1998, the congregation of the Grace United Methodist Church voted to unite with Northside Community. The union became official at the South Indiana Annual Conference June 15, 1998. A groundbreaking ceremony for the new building was held on April 3, 1999. Construction began soon thereafter. The first worship service in the new building was on December 5, 1999. On April 9, 2000, many member of the First United Methodist Church voted to unite with Northside Community. The union became official at the South Indiana Annual Conference June 15, 2000.

In 2011, the Northside Community Church was adopted by the Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church. They became the north satellite campus of the Mt. Pleasant Church which helped to stabilize the church’s resources.  In 2015, Northside graduated from their relationship with Mt. Pleasant, and they became their own congregation once again. As part of this new season of church life, the church invited the Rev. Dr. Clark Cowden to come and be their pastor. He started August 3, 2015.

Northside Community is a seven-day-a-week church with a vision for serving God by serving the community in practical ways. The people of the church respond as various needs arise and help meet the spiritual and physical needs of its members and community with programs / groups like the Bread of Life food ministry, CARE ministry group, Bible Studies, Kids Hope USA, Small Groups that meet in people’s homes, Vacation Bible School, just to name a few.

The church is now writing the next chapter of its history.  We are excited to see what God will do next.
